International law derives from several sources, including treaties, customary international law, general principles of law recognized by civilized nations, judicial decisions, and writings of eminent legal scholars.
Treaties are formal agreements between states or international organizations, binding them to certain obligations. Treaties can cover a wide range of subjects, from human rights to trade, and are a primary source of international law. Decisions of international courts and tribunals, as well as writings of legal scholars, contribute to the development and interpretation of international law.
International law provides mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes between states, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and adjudication before international courts and tribunals.
